Birthday Party Ideas

Wine, cheese, and chocolate
Add a twist to the common wine and cheese party by adding chocolate to the mix. Use mini fondue sets or set a couple large Crock-Pots at each table for guests to indulge on melted cheeses (fontina is a great option) with breads and meats to dip. Then move onto the chocolate course. You could rent or buy a fountain for the chocolate, and to really go all out, have two chocolate fountains -- one dark chocolate and one white chocolate. Also, have a variety of dipping options for the chocolate -- get fruits like pineapple and strawberries and baked goods like mini cookies and Rice Krispie treats.
 Surprise!
If you're going to make it a surprise party, you'll have to go the extra mile to ensure that the person you're throwing the party for doesn't find out. Make certain that the invitations clearly spell out that it's going to be a surprise so that there's no doubt in any guest's mind. And don't wait until the day before to figure out how you're going to get the surprisee to the party -- if they're going to believe you (and you're going to enact the plan with a straight face) you're going to need to have your moves down pat.
